Strengthening the horse's tendons
Collagen is a building block of bones, joints and cartilage. It protects and maintains the flexibility of joints and is recommended during growth phases (before 3 years), in case of intense effort and in older horses.
Collagens are proteins that occur naturally in the body. They are a building block of bones, joints, cartilage, connective tissues, and blood vessels, and account for 30% to 35% of the body's total protein. There are three types of collagen in the body. Type I is the most abundant and is found in skin, tendons, and bone tissue. Type II is found in cartilage. Finally, type III is found in muscles and vessel walls.
Collagen protects and maintains the flexibility of the joints. It therefore contributes to the vitality and well-being of the horse, ensuring daily joint comfort. It acts as a preventative in horses under 3 years of age. In fact, as the animal ages, the body's production of collagen decreases. Its mobility can then be limited, causing joint problems or pain.
Marine collagen hydrolysate can be fed as a supplement to the basic ration and contributes to joint support. It is beneficial in foals whose joints are growing rapidly up to 3 years of age.
Collagen supplementation is also recommended in horses that perform intense sporting activity as well as in older horses to limit the risk of joint fragility and degeneration.
